Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has condemned the calculated and near-fatal attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, describing it as part of a broader campaign of political intimidation targeting leaders in Kenya’s Western and Nyanza regions.
Kalonzo visited Senator Osotsi at a Nairobi hospital on Thursday, a day after the lawmaker was brutally assaulted at a Kisumu restaurant.
The veteran politician described Osotsi’s account of the attack as chilling and deeply concerning, warning that it reflects a deliberate pattern of violence against leaders promoting alternative governance.
“Senator Osotsi's experience is not isolated,” Kalonzo said.
“Siaya Governor James Orengo was similarly attacked by the same goons at the Royal Swiss Hotel, Kisumu. Former MP Richard Onyonka was assaulted while leaving a Linda Mwananchi rally. The United Alternative Government has faced attacks in Kakamega and Bungoma counties. This is a clear, coordinated campaign to block leaders from accessing these regions, intimidate leaders, and silence citizens engaging with alternative leadership.”
Kalonzo expressed solidarity with Senator Osotsi and his family, praying for a full recovery while urging calm among citizens.
The Wiper leader did not hold back in addressing Public Service Secretary Raymond Omollo, whom he directly linked to the attacks.
“Political thuggery has no place in Kenya. PS Raymond Omollo has 24 hours to resign. If he does not step down voluntarily, his Boss must remove him swiftly to demonstrate that he had no role in these attacks. Silence and inaction are unacceptable,” Kalonzo declared.
In his statement, Kalonzo referenced both constitutional and religious principles, citing Exodus 20:13—“Thou shalt not kill”—and Articles 10, 19, 21, and 43 of the Kenyan Constitution, which protect life, dignity, freedom of expression, and the rule of law.
“No political agenda stands above these rights,” he said.
The Wiper Party leader’s remarks add to growing concerns about political violence in Kenya, particularly in areas where opposition leaders and government-in-waiting figures have increasingly faced intimidation.
Senator Osotsi remains under medical care, with doctors monitoring his injuries following the assault that sparked national outrage and prompted calls for urgent accountability from both security agencies and government officials.
