The National Police Service has arrested four suspects linked to the notorious “Panga Boys” gang following a violent robbery in Mbuwani Village.
According to police, the arrests came after a reported attack on the night of 22 January 2026.
The victims, residents of the village, were confronted by four armed men wielding pangas.
During the incident, one resident was seriously injured, sustaining deep cuts to the head and hand, while his mobile phone was stolen.
Police traced the suspects to a hideout in Mbuwani Village, where they recovered four pangas believed to have been used in the assault.
Authorities also seized six mobile phones suspected to have been stolen in previous robberies, linking the group to a series of criminal activities in the area.
The four suspects are currently in custody at Diani Police Station, where they are being processed ahead of further investigations and arraignment.
The police have not released their identities, citing the ongoing nature of the investigations.
“The National Police Service remains committed to intensifying security operations in Kwale County and dismantling organised criminal gangs,” said the statement posted on X by the police.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement officers.”
Kwale County has in recent years faced a rise in violent crimes, including attacks by organized gangs targeting residents and traders.
The arrest of these suspects is part of broader efforts by the National Police Service to curb crime and restore public confidence in local security.
Authorities have warned that the crackdown on gangs will continue, with joint operations planned across the county to ensure safety for communities vulnerable to armed robberies and other violent crimes.
