The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has appealed to members of the public for information that could lead to the arrest of a suspect linked to the disappearance of a four-year-old child in Nakuru County, in a case that has triggered widespread concern.
According to the DCI, the child was reported missing at Mwariki Police Station on June 11, 2026. As the family intensified efforts to locate the child, investigators say the suspect allegedly worsened the situation by attempting to negotiate a ransom, deepening the distress of the grieving family.
Detectives from the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU), working in collaboration with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) at DCI Headquarters and officers from Mwariki Police Station, moved swiftly on intelligence leads that traced the suspect to a plot in the Quarry area of Rongai.
However, the operation did not yield an immediate arrest after the suspect reportedly fled upon noticing approaching detectives.
He escaped into nearby informal settlements and has since remained at large, prompting a continued multi-agency search.
A search of the room where the suspect had been staying uncovered several items believed to be significant to the investigation.
These include a mobile phone, personal belongings, and a mother-and-child clinic booklet containing details of another minor from Nakuru County. Investigators say the recovered documents have raised further questions about the suspect’s movements and possible involvement in other undisclosed cases.
The DCI has now released an appeal to the public, urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have assured the public that all tips will be treated with confidentiality as efforts to locate the suspect intensify.
The case has drawn renewed attention to child safety concerns, with investigators describing it as a sensitive matter requiring urgent resolution. The search operation is ongoing.
