A high-profile divorce and alleged fraud case involving a foreign national and a Kenyan woman has sparked public debate after entrepreneur Caroline Gikunda shared details from proceedings at the Malindi Law Courts, outlining claims of financial exploitation running into tens of millions of shillings.
Gikunda, in a detailed public statement, referenced the ongoing divorce case between Martha Wanjiru Muhoro, also known as Martha Shiro, and a foreign national identified as Joel Fitzpatrick.
According to her account, the matter was heard in Malindi, where allegations of fraud, asset acquisition, and attempted deportation were raised.
“Joel says Martha defrauded him 79 million Kenyan shillings and ended the marriage after four months.”
Gikunda claimed that Fitzpatrick, who reportedly relocated to Kenya in May last year and married Muhoro in July, told the court that he transferred approximately KSh 79 million to his wife during the short-lived marriage.
The funds, he allegedly said, were intended to support relocation and settlement arrangements in Kenya.
She further alleged that within four months of the marriage, the relationship collapsed, after which divorce proceedings were initiated.
According to the claims shared, the money was used to purchase a house valued at KSh 24.7 million, which was registered in Muhoro’s name, alongside two vehicles—a Subaru and a Toyota double-cabin pickup—also allegedly registered under her name.
“Ni God Manze… this is the doing of the Lord and it is pleasing in His eyes.”
Gikunda added that Fitzpatrick told the court he was later left financially stranded in Malindi, with claims emerging that efforts were made to have him deported.
She described the situation as leaving the foreign national without resources and dependent on friends for survival.
The entrepreneur also raised questions about Muhoro’s public image, alleging that despite the ongoing dispute, she remained active in church leadership and public preaching.
However, these assertions remain part of the broader narrative surrounding the case and have not been independently verified.
The Malindi divorce case continues to attract public attention, with online commentary intensifying following Gikunda’s remarks
