Kenyan media personality Jeridah Andayi, formerly of Radio Citizen, has shared a deeply personal account of a harrowing experience with her daughter that took place on April 1, 2008, offering a rare glimpse into the emotional toll of parenting during a medical crisis.
In a heartfelt post on her social media platforms, Andayi recounted standing beside her daughter’s hospital bed, describing her child as “lying with a half-shaved head, her eyelids loosely closing, skin radiant and baby soft, wearing nothing but a diaper.”
She detailed the exhaustion and emotional strain she endured during seven days of minimal food and only water, highlighting the presence of her husband and their pastor who provided spiritual support.
“The Pastor read a Bible verse or Bible story. He prayed and declared that story on my child,” Andayi wrote.
She described the moment she uttered a “ceremonial Yes,” signaling acceptance and commitment amid a process that had tested her physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
“That Yes is the most difficult Yes a parent should ever have to say over their child,” she reflected.
Andayi’s post detailed the slow recovery of her daughter, describing how she watched as medical machines quieted, tubes were removed, and her child gradually regained movement and responsiveness.
“Her breathing improved. Her body temperature started rising again. Her face brightened. She opened her eyes periodically,” she shared, underscoring the mix of relief and fatigue she experienced in the Intensive Care Unit.
Despite the recovery, Andayi candidly admitted the emotional weight of the ordeal remained long after leaving the hospital.
She recounted returning home for rest, only to be jolted awake by hospital calls—a reminder of the ongoing demands of caring for a critically ill child.
Closing her post, Andayi addressed other parents who have endured similar losses, writing, “To anyone grieving a child… I see you. 18 years later, I’m still learning how to carry love and loss at the same time.”
Her reflections resonate with audiences navigating grief, offering solidarity and empathy from someone who is both a public figure and a mother.
Jeridah Andayi, who relocated to the United States in 2024 after leaving her long-standing role at Radio Citizen, has continued to share insights into her personal life, connecting with followers through stories that blend vulnerability, resilience, and maternal love.
Her recent post has drawn widespread attention and sparked conversations on parenting, grief, and the enduring bonds between parent and child.
