Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has revealed details of a high-level meeting with President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, sparking fresh public debate given his controversial track record.

In a lengthy social media post shared on Wednesday evening, Chivayo described the meeting as a “privilege,” saying he was warmly received by the Kenyan Head of State despite the President’s demanding schedule.

He said the discussions centred on leadership, development, and Africa’s economic future.

Chivayo noted that President Ruto shared “nuggets of wisdom” rooted in servant leadership, emphasizing the importance of uplifting communities and building sustainable economies.

He further praised Ruto’s vision, describing him as a leader committed to transforming Kenya and the African continent.

The businessman also highlighted Kenya’s progress in renewable energy, citing major geothermal projects such as Menengai and Olkaria as examples of the country’s economic ambitions.

He expressed admiration for Kenya’s energy sector, stating that it presents opportunities for growth and investment across Africa.

“Kenya continues to consolidate its position as a global leader in renewable energy,” Chivayo stated, adding that such initiatives contribute to sustainable development on the continent.

The meeting comes at a time when Chivayo remains a polarising figure in Southern Africa due to past allegations involving corruption and controversial government contracts.

He has previously been linked to a disputed Zimbabwe Electoral Commission tender involving alleged price inflation, as well as the long-delayed Gwanda solar project, which drew scrutiny over millions of dollars in public funds.

Despite the controversies, Chivayo has consistently denied wrongdoing and maintains that he is a legitimate businessman focused on infrastructure and energy investments.

His visit to Nairobi and meeting with President Ruto has drawn mixed reactions online. Supporters view the engagement as a sign of growing regional cooperation and Pan-African business networking, particularly in key sectors such as energy and infrastructure.

Critics, however, have questioned the optics of the meeting, pointing to Chivayo’s past and raising concerns about governance and accountability in cross-border business dealings.

In his message, Chivayo also struck a personal tone, thanking President Ruto and his family while wishing them well ahead of the Easter holiday.

He described Kenya as his “second home” and reiterated his admiration for the country’s leadership and development agenda.
