A sitting Nairobi Member of County Assembly has been charged in court over an alleged violent robbery, in a case that has drawn public attention due to the involvement of an elected leader.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that Viwandani Ward MCA Aaron Kang’ara Wangari was arrested alongside two other suspects in connection with a robbery reported in Donholm last month.
In a statement, the DCI said: “Three suspects, among them a sitting Member of County Assembly (MCA), have been arraigned before the Makadara Law Courts to answer to charges of Robbery with Violence.”
According to investigators, the incident occurred on June 26, 2026, when three victims were allegedly attacked and robbed of cash and other valuables.
The agency added: “Investigations established that the three allegedly attacked and violently robbed three victims of cash and other valuables before fleeing the scene.”
The MCA was arrested together with Kefa Munyoro and Zablon Kirima Mwangi following what detectives described as thorough investigations into the incident.
The DCI further confirmed their court appearance, stating: “The accused, Hon. Aaron Kang’ara Wangari… together with his alleged accomplices… were arraigned before the Makadara Law Courts today.”
During the court session, all three suspects denied the charges.
According to the statement: “The three suspects were arraigned before the Makadara Law Courts today, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.”
The court granted each of them a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000, allowing their release pending the hearing and determination of the case.
“They were each granted a bond of Sh1 million or an alternative cash bail of Sh500,000, pending the hearing and determination of the case,” the DCI noted.
The case now proceeds to the hearing stage, where prosecutors are expected to present evidence as investigations continue.
