But on the evening of August 10, 2021, events took a tragic turn. Odongo left his home in Homa Bay for what appeared to be a routine walk.
At around 9:47 pm, he spoke to his brother on phone, assuring him he was nearby and would be back shortly. That would be the last known communication he made.
Hours later, concern grew after his phone went off. In the early hours of August 11, a friend reportedly found him at a nearby stage, badly injured.
He had sustained deep cut wounds to the head and other parts of the body, suggesting a violent attack. He was rushed to hospital and later transferred to Kisumu for specialized treatment.
Despite efforts by medical personnel, Odongo succumbed to his injuries, bringing a tragic end to a life many believed held immense promise.
The circumstances surrounding his attack remain unclear. Investigations did not publicly establish who was responsible or what may have led to the assault.
