A 23-year-old woman was found brutally murdered inside her house in Mihang’o, Kayole, in a case that once again spotlighted rising incidents of femicide in Nairobi.
Anne Muthoni Ngunjiri was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, a General Service Unit (GSU) officer, following what investigators believed was a violent domestic altercation on the night of Sunday, February 1.
According to police reports at the time, the suspect had been in an on-and-off relationship with the deceased. Witnesses said he was seen following her to her residence shortly before the incident.

Witnesses said he was seen following her to her residence shortly before the incident.
Investigators believed a confrontation ensued inside the house, although neighbours reported hearing no screams, suggesting the attack may have been sudden.
Muthoni’s lifeless body was discovered the following day, Monday, February 2, lying in a pool of blood. Reports indicated that the house had been locked from the outside, raising suspicions that the suspect fled immediately after the killing.
A roommate who first encountered the scene initially thought she was asleep before realising she was unresponsive.
A postmortem later established that the young woman died from severe head injuries caused by both sharp and blunt force trauma.
Detectives recovered a kitchen knife at the scene, which was believed to have been used in the fatal attack.
Police confirmed that the prime suspect, identified as a GSU officer attached to a unit in Embakasi, had absconded from duty days before the incident.
A manhunt was launched, with authorities pursuing leads to track him down.
The killing sparked outrage among residents and renewed calls for action against gender-based violence. Family members described Muthoni as a young woman with a promising future that was cut short under tragic circumstances.
Her mother said the pain of losing her daughter could not be erased, even if justice was eventually served.
Investigators also probed the nature of the relationship, with indications that it may have been marked by tension and conflict.
The case added to a growing list of domestic-related killings that raised concern over the safety of women in intimate relationships.
Authorities urged anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward as efforts to apprehend him continued.
The incident intensified public debate on accountability within disciplined forces and the need for stronger safeguards to address violence against women in Kenya.
