Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has broken ranks with sections of the ruling coalition to congratulate Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho following the closely contested Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election in Nyandarua County.
In a statement issued shortly after voting, Sudi praised both Ngotho and United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah, describing the race as competitive and reflective of the electorate’s will.
“I want to congratulate Hon. Sammy Kamau Waweru for winning the Ol Kalou by-election. Thumbs up also to Samuel Muchinah Nyagah for a well-fought race. I was on the ground, and I respect the decision made by the people of Ol Kalou,” Sudi said.
His remarks come amid heightened political interest in the by-election, which has been widely viewed as a test of influence between emerging political formations and the ruling party machinery.
While provisional trends and political statements have pointed to Ngotho gaining the upper hand, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had yet to issue an official declaration at the time of publication.
Sudi’s message also carried a broader political appeal, urging unity within the Mt Kenya region, often referred to as Murima.
The MP reaffirmed the region’s role in the formation of President William Ruto’s administration and called for cohesion moving forward.
“This administration of President William Ruto was formed by the people of Murima, and they are still part of this Government. Now, my people, let us move forward,” he added.
The Ol Kalou contest attracted significant attention due to its potential implications on regional political alignments, particularly within Nyandarua County and the wider Mt Kenya voting bloc.
Both candidates ran active grassroots campaigns, with voter turnout reported to be steady despite minor logistical delays in some polling stations.
