Nairobi County CEC for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has disclosed details of a dramatic rescue operation in Kware, Embakasi South, where two children allegedly trafficked were recovered and two suspects arrested.
He said the children—a boy and a girl—were reportedly stolen and sold at Ksh 50,000 each, in what he described as a growing and deeply worrying trend of child trafficking within informal settlements.
According to Mosiria, the woman who purchased the children later fell ill and allegedly sought help from a witch doctor, who linked her condition to failure to return one of the minors to their biological parents.
He added that one of the children was eventually returned to the woman who had initially sold them, but instead of reuniting the child with the family, the suspect allegedly attempted to find another buyer.
Mosiria stated that upon receiving intelligence, he intervened and confronted the suspects, informing them that the rightful parents were ready to reunite with the child as part of efforts to secure her release.
During the operation, he said the woman confessed to purchasing each child at Ksh 50,000. The children were safely rescued and the two suspects arrested, with authorities urged to investigate further.
He called on members of the public to report missing children promptly, warning against human trafficking networks operating in residential areas.
Police have since launched investigations into the suspected trafficking ring in Embakasi South as authorities seek to establish whether more children may have been affected.
Mosiria emphasized that the county government will continue working with security agencies to dismantle networks involved in child exploitation and illegal adoption practices.
He reiterated that child safety remains a priority for his office and urged vigilance among residents.
Investigations are ongoing as police pursue additional leads and suspects linked.
