National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah on Thursday used a heated parliamentary session to strongly respond to allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of linking him to violent incidents in Kikuyu Constituency and surrounding areas.

Ichung’wah dismissed the claims as false and politically motivated, insisting that Gachagua himself was responsible for organising violent groups that targeted public and private property during unrest on 26 June 2025.

“I’ve said here and I want to repeat it, Rigathi Gachagua on the 26th June 2025 organised goons to come and burn our NGCDF office in Kikuyu, county government offices, our law courts were burnt down,” Ichung’wah told the House.

He further alleged that the attacks escalated to personal threats, including an attempt to target his family home.

“They attempted to come and burn down my own home. That was the day he sent people to attempt to kill my father who was then 105 years old,” he said, adding that the accusations being directed at him were “deeply ironic and misleading.”

The Majority Leader questioned Gachagua’s recent claims that he had been involved in orchestrating similar violence against him, challenging the logic of the allegations.

“Then I heard him the other saying ‘Oh Ichung’wah organised goons’, Mr Rigathi I dare ask you, how would I have organised goons to go burn my own house, to go murder my own parents,” he posed, drawing attention to what he termed contradictions in the accusations.

Ichung’wah also criticised remarks made during the burial of the late MP Njuguna Kiaraho, saying political statements made in such settings were disrespectful and insensitive to grieving families.

“It was very callous of Gachagua and the other bearded character to go even without paying any regard to the mourning family and the children of Hon. Kiaraho,” he said.

The exchange highlights the widening political rift between key figures in the Kenya Kwanza administration, with tensions increasingly spilling into parliamentary proceedings and public events.

While both leaders have traded accusations over political intimidation and orchestrated violence, the allegations remain unverified, further deepening divisions within the ruling coalition ahead of the next election cycle.
