Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has condemned the violent assault on Godfrey Osotsi, terming it a disturbing escalation of political intolerance, after visiting the injured lawmaker on Wednesday night at Karen Hospital.
Osotsi was seriously injured earlier on Wednesday in Kisumu City after a group of assailants attacked him at a Java House outlet in Western Mall.
The senator had reportedly stopped at the premises after a routine haircut when he was confronted and assaulted in an incident that unfolded in broad daylight.
Witness accounts indicate the attackers physically overpowered the senator, leaving him with significant injuries.
He was first rushed to Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
The incident has triggered widespread condemnation from political leaders across the country, with calls for swift investigations and arrests.
Leaders have warned that such acts risk undermining democratic space and could heighten tensions if not urgently addressed.
Speaking after his hospital visit, Sifuna expressed concern over Osotsi’s condition while condemning the attack.
“Just left Karen Hospital where our brother Senator Osotsi is being taken care of. He is badly injured but the doctors are taking good care of him,” he said.
“They say he is ‘stable’. I don’t know what to say in these situations honestly. It shouldn’t come to this,” Sifuna added, underscoring the gravity of the incident.
He called on the National Police Service to expedite investigations and ensure those responsible are brought to justice, stressing that violence should never be used to settle political differences.
Authorities are yet to release detailed findings, but investigations into the attack are ongoing as Osotsi remains under close medical supervision in Nairobi.
