Following directives from Parliament Speaker Moses Wetangula, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has provided an update on the transfer of the bodies of victims of Saturday’s fatal helicopter crash in Nandi County, including Johana Ngeno.
Speaking on Sunday, Governor Ole Ntutu said he had concluded engagements with leaders and officials at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, where preliminary arrangements for the transportation of the bodies were being coordinated.
“It is a deeply painful moment for all of us, but we remain steadfast during this difficult time,” he said. He added that he was now proceeding to Nairobi to oversee the transfer of the victims to Lee Funeral Home.
The helicopter crash, which occurred in the Chepkiep area of Mosop Sub-County, claimed six lives, including that of Hon. Ngeno, a respected Member of Parliament known for his service to the Emurua Dikir constituency.
Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the crash, with mechanical failure reported as a possible factor.
Governor Ole Ntutu emphasized the need for dignity and respect in handling the deceased.
He assured the nation that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure that families, colleagues, and the public would have an opportunity to pay their respects.
“We remain committed to supporting the bereaved families during this difficult period,” he said.
The transportation to Lee Funeral Home is part of a coordinated effort led by the National Assembly following Speaker Wetangula’s directives.
Parliamentary officials are assisting with logistics, while local leaders and community representatives have been involved to ensure that the victims receive proper memorial arrangements.
The tragedy has sparked national mourning, with political leaders, residents, and citizens expressing condolences and shock.
The death of Hon. Ngeno has particularly affected the Emurua Dikir constituency, where he was widely regarded for his dedication and courage in representing his people.
Preparations are ongoing in Nairobi for the reception of the bodies and subsequent memorial services.
The arrival at Lee Funeral Home will mark the first step in a series of official ceremonies to honor the victims and support their families during this period of national grief.
