National assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has directed the National Assembly to oversee the transportation of the bodies of all victims of the recent fatal helicopter crash in Nandi County, including Johana Ngeno, to Nairobi.
In a statement on Sunday, Speaker Wetangula expressed deep condolences to the families affected, describing the tragedy as a national loss.
“As a nation, we continue to mourn with the bereaved families during this painful time,” he said.
“We stand in solidarity with them and remain committed to offering the necessary support to ease the burden of their loss. May the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
The helicopter crash occurred in the Chepkiep area of Mosop Sub-County on Saturday, claiming six lives.
Authorities are investigating the incident to establish the cause, with early reports suggesting a possible mechanical failure.
Speaker Wetangula’s directive ensures that the victims’ bodies are transported respectfully, enabling families and colleagues to conduct proper memorials.
Parliamentary staff are coordinating logistics, including reception in Nairobi and assistance for the grieving families.
The tragedy has prompted national mourning, with leaders, residents, and citizens expressing shock and sympathy.
Hon. Ngeno, the Emurua Dikir MP, was a widely respected legislator known for championing his constituents’ interests, and his death has left a significant void in the community.
Beyond mourning, the crash has renewed calls for stricter aviation safety measures in Kenya, particularly for private and chartered flights. Meanwhile, local communities in Nandi and Emurua Dikir are preparing tributes and memorial events for the deceased.
The transportation of the bodies to Nairobi is expected later this week, with national leaders and parliamentary colleagues set to participate in official ceremonies to honor the victims and support their families during this difficult time.
