Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has congratulated Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau following his decisive win in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, terming it a historic moment for both the constituency and the party.

In a statement issued on Thursday night, after the results were declared, Gachagua praised the electorate for delivering what he described as a clear and resounding mandate.

Kamau clinched the seat with an overwhelming majority, defeating his closest rival by a wide margin in a contest that has since drawn national political attention.

“Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency. You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people,” Gachagua said.

The DCP leader framed the victory as a milestone for the relatively new outfit, noting that it marks the party’s first entry into the National Assembly.

He further thanked voters for what he termed as their resolve in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

“To the great people of Ol Kalou, thank you for giving our party, DCP, its first Member of the National Assembly. Thank you for refusing to sell your birthright and for standing firm despite challenges,” he stated.

Gachagua also alluded to tensions reported during the campaign period, alleging intimidation by security officers. However, he commended residents for remaining steadfast and turning out to vote.

The former Deputy President used the moment to reinforce his broader political messaging, describing the win as part of a growing movement.

“I have been struggling with 18 soldiers, but now I have 19. With this addition, things will be much better,” he remarked, in reference to his political allies.

He lauded campaign leaders, including John Methu and Wanjiku Muhia, for their coordination and leadership during the three-month campaign period, alongside other elected leaders and volunteers who supported the bid.

Gachagua further announced plans to tour all five wards of Ol Kalou to personally thank voters, saying the visit was at the request of the local community.

He urged the MP-elect to focus on service delivery and inclusive representation. “Hon. Kamau, please go and serve your people diligently and represent them well,” he said.

The Ol Kalou by-election outcome is widely seen as a significant political development in Nyandarua County, with potential implications for shifting allegiances in the Mt Kenya region ahead of future elections.
