A touching Facebook post by Nyaguthii Lucy has moved many online after she shared heartfelt memories of her late grandmother, a woman she describes as both deeply disciplined and exceptionally generous while growing up in Kisumu Ndogo, Malindi Town.

Nyaguthii painted a vivid picture of a household defined by kindness, discipline, and strong community values, noting that their home was always open to visitors who never left empty-handed.

“Any visitor who stepped into our compound never left empty handed. Ukiingia kwetu lazima utoke na pack moja ama mbili za maziwa,” she wrote, describing how her grandmother ensured no guest left without milk from their livestock.

She further recalled a unique family routine where food security was never a concern. According to her, the family rarely lacked meat or milk, and Sundays were strictly reserved as a no-cooking day.

“The only rule was Sunday no cooking. So githeri ilipikwa Saturday usiku… Sunday yote tunakula hiyo,” she added, highlighting the simplicity and discipline that defined their household.

Beyond her generosity, Nyaguthii described her grandmother as a strong-willed woman whose faith in God remained unshaken even during severe illness.

She revealed that her grandmother was once diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy after one breast was removed.

However, when doctors later discovered a cancerous lump in the second breast, the family was prepared for another difficult battle. Instead, her grandmother asked for time to pray.

“She told the doctor, ‘Nipe muda niombe,’” Nyaguthii recalled, noting her grandmother’s deep spiritual conviction.

What followed, she said, remains a miracle in the family’s eyes, as the lump reportedly disappeared and she was later declared cancer-free.

Nyaguthii also celebrated her grandmother’s role in uplifting others, saying many of her grandchildren were educated through her support and generosity.

She described her as strict but fair, recalling childhood discipline moments that still bring laughter years later, including firm punishments for mistakes regardless of family ties.

Twelve years after her passing, Nyaguthii says the memories remain vivid, describing her grandmother’s legacy as one of love, discipline, and kindness that continues to shape their family.
