A renewed push to clean up Kenya’s voter register has gained traction following remarks by communications strategist Odhiambo Brian Otieno, who has backed the electoral commission’s directive requiring some Kenyans to re-register.
His comments come after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) asked citizens registered before 2012—whose biometric data was not captured—to update their details.
Otieno argues that historical flaws in the voter register continue to pose a threat to electoral integrity, citing his experience during the disputed 2017 General Election.
