Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on President William Ruto to begin accepting the possibility of losing the next general election, emphasizing the need for political maturity and respect for democratic traditions.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday night, Kalonzo stressed that no leader is invincible and urged Ruto to manage public perception responsibly.

“I have to encourage William Ruto to begin to socialize himself to the possibility of an election loss; he will not be the first one,” Kalonzo stated.

The veteran politician expressed concern over what he described as Ruto’s inability to anticipate defeat. He said the current approach of projecting invincibility risks undermining Kenya’s democratic culture.

“We want William Ruto to prepare himself to accept, because he is behaving as if he cannot accept a loss, and making Kenyans believe he is insurmountable,” Kalonzo remarked.

Kalonzo’s comments highlight a broader call for political leaders to model accountability and humility.

He added that preparing for both victory and defeat is essential for establishing a healthy electoral tradition.

“I want him to prepare himself so that we have a tradition of leaders accepting defeat,” he said.

The Wiper leader’s remarks come amid increasing speculation over the dynamics of the 2027 general elections, with political observers noting a growing need for leaders across parties to uphold democratic norms.

By urging Ruto to acknowledge the possibility of losing, Kalonzo is reinforcing the importance of setting a precedent where electoral outcomes are respected regardless of personal ambition.

Kalonzo Musyoka’s message is viewed as part of a broader effort to encourage political decorum and prepare Kenyans for a culture where power transitions peacefully.

For now, the Wiper leader’s appeal underscores that in a democracy, even the highest office is subject to the will of the electorate, and leaders must be ready to respect that mandate.

This marks another instance where seasoned politicians are calling for a balance between ambition and accountability in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
