Fresh claims by the family of a student found dead at Gilgil Hills School have intensified calls for a thorough investigation, with relatives now alleging that the child did not drown in the school’s fish pond as earlier believed.
Faiz, who had been reported missing at around 10 am, was discovered in the school’s fish pond at approximately 1 pm.
However, his uncle, Dickson Ndirangu, now says new observations point to a different cause of death, raising serious concerns about what may have transpired within the school.
“Faiz did not drown in the fish pond; he died elsewhere and was later brought to the fish pond where he was found,” Ndirangu stated.
He further claimed that the boy appeared to have endured significant suffering before his death.
“The boy endured a painful death, which was evident as he even lost control of his bladder due to his suffering,” he added.
The family has questioned how Faiz could have accessed the pond area, describing it as a restricted zone within the school.
According to Ndirangu, both the Early Childhood Development (ECD) compound and the fish pond are securely fenced, with the pond specifically protected by a closed gate.
“This raises the question of how Faiz managed to get into the fish pond, which is both fenced and locked,” he said.
Ndirangu has directly called out the school administration, including the principal and a teacher identified as Maureen, demanding a clear account of the events leading to the boy’s death.
“To the principal of Gilgil Hills Schools and teacher Maureen, we ask you to inform us about the cause of Faiz’s death,” he said.
The family has also raised concerns over the handling of the boy’s belongings, questioning why the school allegedly refused to release his uniform.
“Why did the principal of Gilgil Hills Schools refuse to give us Faiz’s uniform?” Ndirangu posed, suggesting possible gaps in transparency.
Beyond the unanswered questions, the incident has taken a heavy emotional toll on the family. Ndirangu described the situation as devastating, particularly for the boy’s mother.
“Why was my sister’s only son killed? My mother passed away when Jane was just three months old, so she never had the opportunity to meet her. Now, her only child has died in a manner she can’t comprehend,” he said.
He added that the family’s primary concern is to establish the truth. “I just want my sister to find closure regarding the cause of Faiz’s death. I am very weak,” he said.
The case has sparked outrage within the community, with growing pressure on authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), to intervene and establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
As investigations are awaited, the family continues to demand accountability, transparency, and justice for Faiz.
