A fresh political storm has erupted following the entry of former nominated senator Millicent Omanga into the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), with political analyst Tony Gachoka accusing her of being a covert ally of President William Ruto.

Omanga formally announced her move on Thursday, March 19, declaring her intention to vie for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat under the DCP ticket led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In her statement, she expressed optimism about the new political chapter, saying she was “delighted” to join the party and had been warmly received by its leadership.

“I invite you to walk this journey with me as I pursue the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat,” Omanga said, signaling the start of what could be a competitive race in the capital’s politics.

Gachagua welcomed her into the party, describing DCP as a people-centered movement committed to inclusive leadership.

“Our party stands with the people; we listen to them every step of the way and this is the home for people-oriented leadership,” he said, adding that the party seeks to ensure no Kenyan is left behind.

However, the move has drawn sharp criticism from Gachoka, who questioned both Omanga’s political loyalty and Gachagua’s judgment.

In remarks, Gachoka labeled Omanga a “Ruto spy,” alleging her entry into DCP could be part of a broader political strategy linked to the ruling establishment.

“MONEY POLITICS, Ruto spy!” Gachoka stated, further criticizing Gachagua for personally receiving Omanga and endorsing her candidacy. He argued that the move undermines the credibility of the DCP as an alternative political force.

Gachoka also took issue with other reported endorsements within the party, claiming that Gachagua’s lineup mirrors existing leadership structures he previously criticized.

His remarks suggest growing skepticism among some political observers about the ideological direction and candidate selection within the relatively new party.

The allegations come at a time when political realignments are intensifying ahead of the next electoral cycle, particularly in Nairobi, where competition for key seats is expected to be fierce.

Omanga, a vocal and visible political figure, is likely to attract both support and scrutiny as she transitions into her new political home.
