Former Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking a new political chapter ahead of Nairobi’s Woman Representative race.
The announcement, made on Thursday, March 19, signals a shift in alignment as political realignments gather pace ahead of the next electoral cycle.
In a statement, Omanga expressed enthusiasm about her decision, revealing that she had been formally received into the party by its leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, alongside senior officials and supporters.
She described the move as a step toward engaging more directly with Nairobi residents through what she termed a people-focused political platform.
Omanga simultaneously declared her intention to vie for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat, inviting her supporters to join her in what she framed as a transformative political journey.
Her entry into the race is expected to reshape early dynamics in the capital’s competitive political landscape, where alliances and party backing often play a decisive role.
Gachagua welcomed Omanga into the party, referring to her by her popular nickname “Mama Miradi,” and praised her track record in public service.
He reiterated DCP’s commitment to grassroots engagement, emphasizing that the party seeks to champion inclusive leadership and ensure that all citizens are represented.
“Our party stands with the people; we listen to them every step of the way,” Gachagua stated, adding that DCP aims to build a political movement grounded in responsiveness and equity.
Omanga’s move comes amid increasing activity within emerging and restructured political outfits positioning themselves as alternatives to established parties.
Analysts note that her entry into DCP could strengthen the party’s visibility in Nairobi, given her strong social media presence and past political mobilization efforts.
However, her candidacy is likely to face stiff competition from aspirants across major parties, as Nairobi remains one of the most hotly contested political battlegrounds in the country.
With the race still in its early stages, attention now turns to how DCP will consolidate support in the capital and whether Omanga’s entry will influence voter sentiment in a constituency that often reflects broader national political trends.
