Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu has announced the funeral programme for Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and four others who perished in the recent helicopter crash, confirming that the victims will be accorded a joint send-off on Friday.
In an update to residents and bereaved families, the governor said a requiem Mass will be held on Wednesday at the Baptist Church to honour the lives lost.
The prayers will be followed by traditional Kalenjin rites, reflecting the cultural practices of the affected families.
Ntutu explained that the funeral arrangements were agreed upon in consultation with the families.
He noted that on Thursday, two of the bodies will be brought to the rural home in line with Kalenjin customs, allowing relatives and community members to pay their last respects before the final burial rites.
He further confirmed that the main funeral service will take place on Friday at Emurua Dikirr Primary School. After the joint service, each of the five bodies will be transported to their respective homes for burial.
According to the governor, the families resolved to hold a collective funeral because all the victims hail from Emurua Dikirr, a decision intended to promote unity and shared mourning within the community.
The crash claimed the lives of MP Johana Ngeno, his staff member Wycliffe Rono alias “Sportpesa,” Kenya Forest Service officer Amos Kipngetich, Carlos Keter and Nick Kosgey. The tragedy has deeply shaken Narok County and the wider Kalenjin community.
Local leaders have continued to stream into the area to condole with the families and assist with preparations.
Ntutu has urged residents to maintain peace and solidarity during the mourning period, describing the joint funeral as a moment of collective healing.
The governor reiterated his call for thorough and independent investigations into the cause of the crash, saying clarity is necessary not only for accountability but also to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
As Emurua Dikirr prepares for the final send-off, residents are expected to gather in large numbers to honour the victims, whose deaths have left a profound void in the community.
