Fresh details have emerged about the emotional aftermath of the helicopter crash in Nandi County that claimed the lives of Johana Ngeno and five others, including Kaplong Girls teacher Carlos Keter.

In a series of heartfelt social media posts, Keter’s close friend Aron Bett described the pain of arriving at the crash scene and confronting the reality of the tragedy.

Bett said one of the moments that shattered him was discovering Keter’s personal belongings among the debris.

“On the scene when I arrived, I immediately found Carlos’ C-to-C charger, the one he always used. It was half rough, yet it didn’t even burn in the fire. That moment broke me,” he wrote.

The crash occurred on Saturday evening in Nandi County, sending shockwaves across the political and education sectors.

Keter, who was a teacher at Kaplong Girls, was described by friends as committed, supportive and deeply involved in community affairs.

Bett recalled how Keter stood by him during a fundraising drive, offering guidance on mobilizing support and reaching out to well-wishers.

According to Bett, the teacher was not only a professional colleague but also a dependable friend.

“I remember the day of my fundraising he stood firmly with me, guiding me on how to reach people and mobilize support. Indeed, he was a true friend,” Bett wrote.

He also revealed that Keter had recently joined what he referred to as “Team Ngong,” a political camp aligned with the late MP.

Bett said Keter had urged him to join, telling him, “We have to go together in this team.” However, Bett said he had asked for time to reflect, noting that politics involves differing interests.

In a separate message written partly in Swahili, Bett described the anguish of standing at the site where the victims lost their lives.

“Tume fika mahali watu wetu walikufia… moyo ukaniuma sana,” he wrote, adding that he remembered their dreams, leadership and aspirations.

He paid tribute to Johana Ngeno, also known as Ngong Ole Kisiara, describing him and the other victims as heroes who would not be forgotten.

“It is hard to believe I have lost a great friend, a strong and fearless leader. My heart is heavy with pain and disbelief,” Bett added.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing as families, colleagues and leaders continue to mourn the six victims.
