Gaucho Hits Out at ‘Double Standards’ After Morara Joins Jubilee

Self-proclaimed “Ghetto President” and political activist Calvince Gaucho has weighed in on the recent decision by Morara Kebaso to join the Jubilee Party, accusing critics of selective outrage and hypocrisy in Kenya’s political discourse.

Kebaso’s move, which saw him shelve his INJECT Party and align with Jubilee ahead of the 2027 General Election, has sparked mixed reactions across the political divide.

While some leaders and commentators praised the decision as strategic, others questioned his shift from independent activism to mainstream party politics.

However, Gaucho framed the debate as part of a broader pattern of inconsistency in how political choices are judged.

“There are people in this country who believe their opinions are the only ones that matter,” Gaucho said, referencing past protests led by youth movements.

He recalled the Sufuria Movement, where demonstrators protested the high cost of living, saying participants were dismissed and mocked instead of being heard.

Gaucho argued that similar actions are now being interpreted differently depending on political alignment.

“When we took to the streets, we were branded lazy. Today, when others demonstrate and we choose a different path, they say we are afraid,” he stated.

He also pointed to what he termed as unequal treatment of political defections. Gaucho cited the backlash faced by Kasmuel after joining the Orange Democratic Movement, compared to the praise Kebaso received after joining Jubilee.

“When Kasmuel joined ODM, he was called a traitor. But when Morara joined Jubilee, he was celebrated as a smart young man. That double standard speaks for itself,” he said.

The activist further defended the right of Kenyans to make independent political choices, emphasizing constitutional freedoms.

He dismissed claims that certain groups influence public thinking, in an apparent reference to opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“No one is superior to anyone else. Kenya belongs to all of us,” Gaucho said. “Every Kenyan has the right to support the leader and the political path they believe in.”

Gaucho reiterated his support for President William Ruto, stating that the Head of State should be allowed to complete his constitutional term without disruption.

“Democracy means respecting different opinions, whether we agree with them or not,” he added, concluding with his slogan: “It is Tutam. Kumi bila break.”
