A close friend of Kaplong Girls High School teacher Carlos Kipkoech Keter has expressed profound grief following the tragic death of the educator in the helicopter crash that also claimed the life of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno.

Kipngetich Ernest, a friend and colleague of Keter, shared his sorrow on social media, recalling their last conversation just days before the accident.

“My last conversation with my great friend and a colleague Carlos K. Keter was on Wednesday where we promised each other to meet over this weekend, possibly it could have been today or tomorrow. Little did I know that death awaits him. Indeed it’s sad to learn your demise. Go rest well my brother. Shine on your way,” Ernest wrote on Facebook.

Carlos Keter, a recently employed teacher at Kaplong Girls High School, had not yet received his first salary.

According to his colleague, Mwalimu Braxtone of Kapsabet Boys, Keter leaves behind a young family and had been preparing to build his career in teaching. “Gone too soon,” Braxtone wrote. “Rest in power mwalimu.”

The helicopter crash occurred on Saturday, 28th February 2026, in Mosop, Nandi County, amid heavy rains while attempting an emergency landing.

The accident claimed the lives of four people, including Keter, MP Ngeno, pilot George Were, and journalist Nick Kosgei, leaving friends, family, and the broader community in shock.

Despite his short time at Kaplong Girls, Keter was remembered for his dedication to teaching and mentorship. Colleagues described him as a committed and passionate educator who quickly earned the respect of students and fellow teachers alike.

Friends also highlighted his warmth and generosity, which left a lasting impression in the brief period he worked in the school.

The tragedy has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of private aircraft in Kenya, particularly under adverse weather conditions.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether mechanical failure, pilot error, or environmental factors contributed to the crash.

As Kaplong Girls High School and the larger community mourn the loss, Keter’s legacy as a devoted teacher and caring friend endures.

Social media tributes continue to pour in, honoring his life and expressing condolences to his family, who now face the difficult reality of losing a young father and husband.
