A tense moment unfolded on Friday night at Wilson Airport after a SafariLink-operated aircraft veered off the runway during landing, triggering an emergency response but leaving all on board unharmed.

In a statement, Kenya Airports Authority confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 8:55pm when the aircraft, arriving from Kisumu International Airport, experienced a runway excursion shortly after touchdown.

The plane was carrying 39 people, including passengers and crew. Authorities reported that all individuals were safely accounted for, with no injuries recorded.

Emergency teams stationed at the airport responded immediately, securing the scene and assisting in the evacuation process.

SafariLink, the operator of the flight, identified as Flight 090, said the aircraft was operated on its behalf by ALS Limited. The airline confirmed that the flight had 34 passengers and five crew members on board at the time of the incident.

In its statement, SafariLink Aviation described the event as a “runway excursion” and reiterated that safety remains its top priority.

The airline noted that passengers and crew were promptly evacuated and offered necessary support services following the incident.

Despite the scare, airport operations at Wilson Airport continued without disruption, according to KAA. The aircraft remains at the site as recovery efforts get underway.

Both the aviation authority and the airline have launched investigations to establish the cause of the incident.

Officials indicated that a comprehensive review involving relevant aviation agencies is ongoing, with further updates expected once preliminary findings are available.

The incident adds to growing scrutiny around aviation safety in the country, particularly at Wilson Airport, one of East Africa’s busiest hubs for domestic and regional flights.

Authorities have, however, sought to reassure the public, emphasizing that safety protocols functioned as intended, preventing injuries and ensuring a swift response.

More details are expected as investigators examine technical, environmental, and operational factors that may have contributed to the runway excursion.
