Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has spoken publicly for the first time since his sudden disappearance on Saturday evening, recounting a harrowing experience that left his family traumatized.
Tuju addressed journalists on Monday afternoon, sharing details of the incident and reflecting on the danger he faced.
“My family is traumatized and I consider myself lucky because there are many Kenyans with unmarked graves,” Tuju said, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and the life-threatening nature of his ordeal.
He further explained how he had sensed danger prior to the incident. “I noticed I was being followed before and reported it to the authorities,” Tuju told the press, indicating that he had previously raised alarms about suspicious activity targeting him.
On the day of his disappearance, Tuju described how the situation escalated.
“On Saturday as I was going for an interview at Ramogi FM, I noticed the same vehicle from before following me only this time without plate numbers. Fortunately, I know Karen well and branched into Nandi Road, lost the tail, and abandoned my car,” he said, outlining the quick thinking that helped him evade the mysterious followers.
While the motive behind the pursuit remains unclear, Tuju’s actions likely prevented a serious outcome.
Authorities confirmed they are investigating the incident, though no arrests have yet been made. Tuju urged citizens to stay alert and report suspicious activity promptly.
His reappearance has brought relief to supporters while prompting questions about the effectiveness of security measures for high-profile individuals who frequently travel for work.
