Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday evening led government officials in receiving the remains of Johana Ngeno and five others who perished in a helicopter crash.
The bodies arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where Murkomen was joined by Energy CS Davis Chirchir, other leaders, family members, and friends in a solemn ceremony marked by grief and reflection.
In a statement issued after the reception, Murkomen described Ngeno as a “departed brother” and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.
He confirmed that the six bodies would be preserved at Lee Funeral Home as funeral arrangements get underway.
“The bodies of the six who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash yesterday will be preserved at Lee Funeral Home as funeral arrangements are made,” Murkomen said.
The CS further revealed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Department has launched comprehensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
He noted that the inquiry would be conducted in accordance with procedures set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the crash, and Murkomen urged members of the public to remain patient as investigators work to establish what happened.
“We urge the public to remain patient as we await the findings of the investigation,” he stated.
The fatal crash has sent shockwaves across the country, particularly in Emurua Dikirr Constituency, which Ngeno represented in the National Assembly.
Leaders across the political divide have continued to pay tribute to the late MP, describing him as accessible and committed to his constituents.
Murkomen called on Kenyans to keep the affected families and the people of Emurua Dikirr in their prayers during what he termed a difficult period of national mourning.
“We wish them strength and comfort during this difficult time,” he said.
