Self-proclaimed “Ghetto President” and ODM politician Gaucho has raised concerns over the coordination between ODM and UDA as Kenya heads toward the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in a wide-ranging statement, Gaucho warned that the ODM-UDA coalition could face tensions if the interests of the Luo community are not carefully considered.

“For sure Baba Raila Odinga is gone,” Gaucho said, reflecting on his last conversation with the late ODM leader in Kisumu.

“He always emphasized that we should stand steadfast with ODM to help us assume power or negotiate at the national level as a community.”

He lamented that with Raila’s absence, some decisions previously guided by the veteran leader might now be contested.

Gaucho criticized UDA for allegedly attempting to dictate ODM’s choice of candidates for key positions in Nairobi, arguing that the coalition’s arrangement appears skewed.

“UDA already has the presidency, the deputy presidency, and is going for the governor position,” he said.

“Then they want to leave us mkia bila nyama [without meat], even the Senate position is being threatened.”

He singled out several candidates and alleged moves by UDA that he described as undermining ODM’s influence.

These included endorsements for senatorial and gubernatorial candidates in Nairobi that Gaucho argued were better suited for other political actors.

He also criticized moves to field figures with limited grassroots backing, labeling some choices as opportunistic and disconnected from community priorities.

Gaucho stressed that ODM’s support remains a vital factor in UDA’s prospects in Nairobi and that the Luo community should not be sidelined.

“Even in Nairobi, UDA will win their positions through Raila Odinga’s supporters,” he said. “But our UDA brothers should not choose the players for us in the 2027 match. Some of us are quiet, but we are boiling inside.”

Despite his grievances, Gaucho reaffirmed support for President William Ruto and the UDA-led government, citing his belief that Ruto “means well” for Kenyans.

However, he emphasized that the Luo community must be prioritized in terms of compensation and development projects, particularly for youths affected during past demonstrations.

Gaucho also commended ODM leaders such as Oburu Odinga, Gladys Wanga, and Junet Mohammed, expressing confidence that they will safeguard the party’s interests and negotiate a “sober and beneficial wedding with UDA.”

He stressed that while he lacks parliamentary influence and financial resources, he has long-standing experience in the political machinery of ODM and remains a voice for Luo youths and supporters.

The politician’s remarks highlight potential friction within the ODM-UDA coalition as Kenya prepares for a high-stakes election, with community representation and candidate selection emerging as key points of contention.

Gaucho’s warning comes at a critical moment when both parties aim to consolidate support in preparation for 2027, signaling that coalition dynamics could shape the political landscape in Nairobi and beyond.
