Investigations have been launched into the reported disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, following the discovery of his abandoned vehicle in Nairobi’s Karen area under unclear circumstances.
In a statement released on Sunday night, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed that a missing person report had been filed at Karen Police Station, prompting the agency to initiate a formal probe into the matter.
According to investigators, Tuju was reported missing by his family on Sunday, March 22, 2026. His vehicle was later found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen, with its hazard lights still on.
A security guard from a nearby institution raised the alarm, triggering a swift response from officers based at Karen Police Station.
The scene was processed by crime scene experts, and the vehicle has since been towed to the police station for forensic examination as detectives seek to establish the sequence of events leading to his disappearance.
Authorities say efforts to reach Tuju have so far been unsuccessful, with his mobile phone reportedly switched off.
A specialized team has been deployed to lead the investigation, working in coordination with multiple government agencies to trace his whereabouts and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
However, the investigation has encountered a hurdle after detectives were denied access to Tuju’s residence on Mwitu Drive by family members.
The DCI has urged full cooperation from all parties, emphasizing the importance of granting investigators unrestricted access to relevant locations and timely information to support the inquiry.
The agency has also appealed to members of the public who may have information about Tuju’s movements or who may have seen his vehicle or any suspicious activity in the Miotoni Lane or greater Karen area before, on, or after March 21, to come forward.
