Detectives have dismantled two suspected narcotic drug syndicates in Nairobi’s Kibra Sub-County following a coordinated covert operation targeting illegal drug networks in the area.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said officers from its Anti-Narcotics Unit, supported by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit and the Operations Action Team, conducted intelligence-led raids in Karanja area, leading to the arrest of two suspects and seizure of drugs and related materials.

The first operation targeted a residential house linked to suspected drug trafficking. Detectives, acting on prior surveillance, identified the premises occupied by Ahmed Juma Wanjiru, 51.

A search of the house yielded 14 packages of dry plant material believed to be narcotic drugs, packaged in ziplock and non-woven bags, suggesting distribution.

Officers also recovered weighing scales, packaging materials, and Sh31,700 in cash suspected to be proceeds of the illegal trade.

Additional items seized included a mobile phone and personal documents linked to the suspect. Wanjiru was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate but related operation within the same locality, detectives raided another residence occupied by Sofia Burhan Marjan.

A search uncovered seven packages of suspected narcotic drugs, along with additional quantities stored in a basin and rolled substances ready for use or sale.

Police also seized multiple weighing scales, packaging materials, and tools associated with drug preparation, including scissors and a smoking pipe.

Investigators further recovered documents indicating prior legal proceedings involving the suspect, raising concerns over repeat offences.

Marjan was arrested and taken into custody pending further legal action. All recovered exhibits from both operations have been secured for forensic analysis.

The DCI said the back-to-back operations highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug trafficking networks and curb the spread of illicit substances in urban areas.

Authorities have urged members of the public to share information that could assist in identifying and dismantling similar criminal operations.
