Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is mourning the tragic death of their player, Silas Abungana, who passed away Wednesday night at Kakamega County General Hospital.
The club confirmed the footballer’s demise in a statement shared on Thursday morning, describing the loss as “untimely and devastating.”
Abungana had sustained severe head injuries during an attack on Tuesday, February 3, and despite receiving urgent medical care, he succumbed to his injuries just minutes before midnight on February 4.
While the club’s statement did not provide details on the cause of the attack, sports enthusiast Don Teya shared new information on social media indicating that Abungana was attacked by his younger brother.
"Kakamega Homeboyz player Silas Abungana died after being attacked by his younger brother following a family dispute, with relatives allegedly pressuring him to leave his wife, whom they did not consider suitable for the family," Teya said on X.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from family pressure for Abungana to leave his wife, whom relatives considered unsuitable for the family.
“Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is deeply devastated by the untimely demise of Silas Abungana. During this incredibly difficult time, we respectfully request privacy for Silas’ family, teammates, friends, and club officials as we come to terms with this unimaginable loss,” the club said.
They added that further communication would be issued in due course.

The incident has also sparked conversations on social media about the impact of domestic disputes and the pressures families place on individuals, especially public figures.
