Garissa County witnessed a landmark event as 52 girls and young women graduated from the Al-Hidaya Islamic Education Centre for Women, completing intensive training in Islamic studies and Arabic language.

The graduation ceremony, officiated by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, celebrated the achievements of the young scholars and their readiness to serve as community leaders in religious education.

The graduates underwent rigorous coursework covering the Qur’an, Hadith, Seerah, and Fiqh, equipping them with both scholarly knowledge and practical skills for guiding communities on religious and moral matters.

The programme emphasizes Islamic jurisprudence, prophetic traditions, and Arabic literacy, fostering personal devotion alongside leadership development.

Speaking at the event, CS Duale underscored the transformative role of women’s education in society.

“Educated women are often the first teachers of children and key influencers of moral, spiritual, and social development. Empowering women with knowledge strengthens the community’s ability to raise future generations grounded in sound values,” he stated.

CS Duale also encouraged residents of Garissa and the wider Northern Kenya region to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA).

He highlighted that registration provides access to quality healthcare, reduces out-of-pocket expenses, and enhances resilience for vulnerable families, linking health empowerment with broader community development.

The graduation ceremony drew a large audience, including local leaders such as Waberi MCA Hon. Abubakar Haji Sugow and Garissa County Commissioner Mohammed Mwabudzo, alongside religious scholars, parents, and community members.

The gathering celebrated not only academic achievement but also the wider impact of women’s education on family and community life.
