The wife of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has reportedly fled Uganda with her children days after being discharged from hospital following an alleged assault at their Magere home.
According to an update shared by journalist Rittah Kaggwa, Barbie Kyagulanyi, also known as Barbie Itungo, is said to have left Uganda immediately after her discharge from Nsambya Hospital.
Sources cited in the update claim that she and her children quietly exited the country and are believed to have travelled to the United States.
The development follows a violent security raid at the Kyagulanyi family residence in Magere, where uniformed soldiers reportedly stormed the home while searching for Bobi Wine.
Barbie later accused Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers of torturing and mishandling her during the operation, allegations the military has not publicly responded to.
Reports further indicate that after leaving hospital, Barbie did not return to the Magere residence, which is said to remain under heavy security occupation.
Instead, she reportedly made arrangements to reunite with her children before leaving the country, citing safety concerns.
The Magere home has for years been a flashpoint of political tension, particularly during election periods and moments of heightened confrontation between the state and the opposition.
Following the disputed election, Bobi Wine revealed that he had gone into hiding, citing threats to his life and intensified security operations targeting his home and associates.
In statements shared on social media, the NUP leader said armed forces had turned his residence into what he described as a “military barracks,” making it unsafe for him and his family.
Bobi Wine claimed the security deployment was intended to either arrest or harm him, forcing him to operate from undisclosed locations.
He accused the state of using intimidation and violence to silence opposition voices after the election, which he rejected as neither free nor fair.

Human rights groups and opposition figures have raised concerns over the reported assault on Barbie Kyagulanyi and Bobi Wine’s decision to go into hiding, describing the situation as evidence of a widening crackdown on dissent.
They argue that targeting family members represents a dangerous escalation in Uganda’s political standoff.
