United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar has strongly criticised retired President Uhuru Kenyatta after he renewed his claim that the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga won the 2022 presidential election.
In a press statement dated Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Omar dismissed Uhuru’s remarks and maintained that President William Ruto won the election. The statement came hours after Uhuru said during a Jubilee Party meeting in Nairobi that he still believed Raila had won the contest.
Uhuru, who supported Raila's presidential bid in 2022, said he and his allies had done everything possible to help the former ODM leader secure the presidency.
“Na kura akapata, na mimi mpaka wa leo najua ya kwamba yeye ndiye alishinda hiyo kura,” Uhuru said, meaning that Raila received the votes and that he still knew that Raila had won.
Responding to the former president, Omar accused him of failing to come to terms with the outcome of the election.
“Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta continues to live and wallow in a fool’s paradise,” Omar said in the statement.
Omar maintained that Ruto won the 2022 presidential election “decisively and conclusively”, rejecting Uhuru’s assertion that Raila was the rightful winner.
The official results showed Ruto receiving 50.49 per cent of the vote against Raila’s 48.85 per cent, while the Supreme Court unanimously upheld Ruto’s victory after dismissing petitions challenging the result.
The UDA secretary general also accused Uhuru of attempting to influence the election outcome through what he described as “unconstitutional shenanigans” before, during and after the 2022 polls.
Among the allegations contained in the statement were claims involving the then IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati and events at the Bomas of Kenya on August 15, 2022. UDA did not provide new evidence in the statement to substantiate those allegations.
Omar further linked the political history between Uhuru and Ruto to the former president’s electoral victories in 2013 and 2017.
He argued that Ruto, then Uhuru’s running mate, played a significant role in the Jubilee campaigns that secured the two presidential victories.
According to Omar, Uhuru later abandoned his former deputy after securing his second term and chose to politically oppose him.
The exchange comes as political parties and leaders intensify their positioning ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Uhuru's renewed comments on the 2022 election and UDA's response have reopened debate over the circumstances surrounding Raila's defeat, more than four years after the Supreme Court settled the legal challenge to Ruto's victory.
Omar warned Uhuru to expect another political contest in 2027, while asserting that Ruto would seek to retain the presidency.
