President William Ruto’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election is increasingly taking shape around a group of influential figures drawn from different regions and political formations, according to a publication by the People Daily.
In its Monday, September 21, 2026 edition, the newspaper highlighted Ruto’s 12 power brokers by identifying politicians it says are playing significant roles in shaping the President’s re-election campaign.
The publication brings together senior government officials, lawmakers and political leaders from across the country, reflecting the broad regional alliances that are likely to remain important as political parties and coalitions position themselves ahead of the 2027 contest.
Among those highlighted is Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who has remained a central figure in the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The list also features Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, two senior leaders whose political networks extend beyond their traditional strongholds.
National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah also appears on the list, alongside Oburu Oginga, Opiyo Wandayi, Simba Arati and William Kabogo.
The publication further identifies Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Coast-based political figure Hassan Joho, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and former Embakasi South MP John Mbadi.
The inclusion of politicians with different political backgrounds points to the increasingly broad nature of the alliances surrounding the Ruto administration as the country moves towards the next election cycle.
Several of the figures named have previously been associated with different political parties and formations, while others have held senior positions in government or Parliament.
Their roles give them access to regional networks, political constituencies and institutional platforms.
However, being identified by the newspaper as a “power broker” does not by itself establish a formal campaign position or guarantee the political influence of any individual.
The political landscape remains fluid, with alliances, party arrangements and individual positions potentially changing before the 2027 elections.
The People Daily publication comes as politicians across the country increasingly focus on coalition-building, regional mobilisation and succession politics.
With the 2027 General Election approaching, the ability of the Ruto administration to maintain its broad political coalition is expected to remain a major feature of Kenya’s political debate.
