Geoffrey Mosiria has made explosive allegations about Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, claiming the lawmaker is pursuing a political strategy aimed at weakening Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.
The Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service made the claims in a statement while commenting on the ongoing political activities surrounding the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Mosiria alleged that Babu had been approached as part of an attempt to politically undermine Sifuna, claiming the Embakasi East MP demanded KSh1 billion in the discussions.
According to Mosiria, KSh300 million had allegedly already been delivered and was being used to finance political activities, including bloggers, mobilisation and media campaigns.
“I have been informed and I believe there was an attempt to politically undermine Sifuna, where Babu was allegedly approached with an offer to finish Sifuna politically. Babu demanded KSh1 billion during the discussion,” Mosiria claimed.
He further alleged that part of the money was being used to build a favourable public image for Babu while attacking individuals perceived to be opposed to him or exposing his activities.
Mosiria also linked Babu's recent statement that he would not attend all Linda Mwananchi rallies to what he described as a deliberate political strategy.
“The statement about Babu not attending all Linda Mwananchi rallies was intentional and meant to prepare Kenyans so that if Sifuna faced challenges including being booed and chased away from the ground by goons that Babu will mobilize for that work,” he alleged.
He claimed such a development would eventually create a situation where Babu gained greater influence within the movement, leaving Sifuna dependent on him for political mobilisation.
Mosiria further questioned whether Babu's primary focus was still the Nairobi gubernatorial contest, suggesting that the alleged funding could instead be intended to strengthen his position in Embakasi East.
“With the honoring of the KSh1 billion deal and delivery of KSh300 million, Babu’s focus may not be the gubernatorial race, but securing his political interests, with the remaining KSh700 million allegedly being enough to strengthen his position and return to Embakasi East to defend his current seat,” he said.
Mosiria said he had known Babu since their days in the Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU), adding that his allegations were informed by his personal experiences and what he said he had been told.
He went on to make a direct appeal to Sifuna, urging him to reconsider any political arrangement with Babu.
“My advice to Sifuna: Don't accept coalition with Patel!” Mosiria stated.
He also described Babu in strongly critical terms, alleging that the lawmaker was seeking to weaken Sifuna politically while simultaneously pushing for a coalition arrangement under Linda Mwananchi.
Mosiria concluded by warning that he would soon disclose what he described as Babu's financier, while calling for peace in Kenya's political affairs.
