Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s growing political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election have triggered fresh speculation over whether he could enter the presidential race, with Ugandan political analyst Egesa Ronald offering his assessment of the emerging political picture.
Sifuna has increasingly featured in discussions surrounding the 2027 contest, particularly through his association with the Linda Mwananchi movement.
His recent engagements with diplomats and foreign representatives have also added to the attention surrounding his political activities.
Egesa has now claimed that influential interests within Kenya’s political establishment could be preparing to support Sifuna as an alternative to President William Ruto in the next election.
“The real owners of Project Kenya have reached a consensus to replace William Ruto with Edwin Sifuna,” Egesa stated.
The analyst linked his argument to the political developments that followed the 2024 Gen Z-led protests, which became a major turning point in Kenya’s political landscape.
According to Egesa, sentiment analyses conducted across the country over the past two years had consistently placed Ruto’s support below 35 per cent nationally.
He argued that Sifuna could appeal to different political and social interests because of the issues he has been championing.
“Sifuna is a candidate that ticks many boxes for various stakeholders,” he said.
Sifuna’s political visibility has indeed increased as the 2027 election approaches.
His Linda Mwananchi engagements have placed him at the centre of conversations about opposition politics, while his meetings with diplomats have generated further public interest in his political activities.
However, Egesa’s analysis went beyond Sifuna’s possible candidature to make serious claims about how he believes Ruto could respond to mounting political competition.
The analyst alleged that Ruto could seek to increase his accumulation of public resources and potentially exploit political tensions before and during the 2027 elections.
“He will most likely do 1 to enable him do 2. After all, Ruto was a good student of both Moi and Raila. Ruto is a man that will not go down easily,” Egesa stated.
He concluded his assessment with a warning about the potential for political violence during the next election.
“2027 is going to be bloody in Kenya,” he said.
Egesa did not provide evidence in his statement to substantiate the allegations that Ruto would finance violence or unlawfully accumulate public resources.
For now, Sifuna’s possible presidential candidature remains part of an evolving political conversation, with questions still surrounding the final opposition alliances, the structure of Linda Mwananchi and whether the Nairobi senator will formally seek the presidency.
