Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has celebrated the graduation of his daughter, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, from the University of Nairobi, highlighting the academic achievements of his family and the careers several of his children have pursued.
Flavia graduated with a Second Class Upper Division Bachelor of Economics and Statistics from the University of Nairobi School of Economics.
In a congratulatory message, Khalwale expressed pride in his daughter’s achievement while also celebrating the university’s role in educating several members of his family.
“Congratulating and celebrating my daughter, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, for graduating today from the University of Nairobi School of Economics with a 2nd Class Upper Division Bachelor of Economics and Statistics,” Khalwale said.
The vocal senator then listed five members of his family who have attended the University of Nairobi, detailing their academic and professional backgrounds.
Khalwale identified himself as a University of Nairobi alumnus, having studied Medicine before joining elective politics. He currently serves as the Kakamega senator.
He also disclosed that his son, Tigana Kachuma Khalwale, works as an auditor at the Office of the Auditor General.
Another of his children, Inger Imbuhila Khalwale, is an actuarial scientist at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), while Linda Lichuma Khalwale works as a civil engineer at the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
Khalwale described Flavia as an economist following her graduation, completing a family list that includes professionals working in different sectors of government.
“We are very proud of the @uonbi that now boasts of the following alumni in my family,” the senator said before listing the members of his family and their respective professions.
He concluded the message by thanking God for the family’s achievements.
“We profoundly thank God through whom everything is possible,” Khalwale said.
The senator’s post, however, generated mixed reactions online, with attention shifting beyond Flavia’s academic achievement to Khalwale’s disclosure about the occupations of his children.
Some social media users congratulated the graduate and praised the family for its academic accomplishments, while others questioned the prominence given to the fact that several of Khalwale’s children hold positions within government institutions.
The reactions reflect the wider public sensitivity surrounding employment in public institutions, particularly when prominent political figures disclose that their relatives work in government agencies.
Khalwale’s message did not state that any of his children obtained their positions through his influence, and the senator primarily used the post to celebrate Flavia’s graduation and the family’s association with the University of Nairobi.
