Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of allegedly defrauding political aspirants seeking tickets under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), claiming that several individuals paid millions of shillings for direct nominations that were later reassigned.
Wamumbi alleged that he has documentary evidence to support his claims and challenged those named to publicly deny the accusations.
“Evidence niko nayo kwa karatas,” Wamumbi said.
“DCP aspirants are crying in low tones after being conned millions by the king of Itungati and have no one to speak on their behalf.”
The MP went on to list several high-profile politicians whom he claimed had paid substantial sums for party tickets, only to be replaced by other aspirants who allegedly paid higher amounts.
“Hon. Jamleck Kamau of Murang’a paid KES 5,000,000 for the Murang’a gubernatorial DCP direct ticket, and Kang’ata came and paid KES 10,000,000,” he claimed.
Wamumbi further alleged a similar pattern in Nyandarua and Nairobi counties, suggesting a system where tickets were effectively auctioned to the highest bidder.
“Sicily Kariuki paid KES 5,000,000 for the Nyandarua gubernatorial DCP direct ticket, and Badilisha came and paid KES 10,000,000,” he said.
“Irungu Nyakera paid KES 5,000,000 for the Nairobi DCP gubernatorial direct ticket; James Gakuya came and paid KES 10,000,000.”
According to the legislator, the alleged scheme extends beyond gubernatorial contests, affecting parliamentary aspirants as well.
“A friend of mine from Nyeri has given KSh 20,000,000 na atarukwa aambiwe akasimame MP huko Othaya,” he added.
“These are just a few cases of people your Gitungati has conned, list ya MP candidates is two pages.”
Wamumbi challenged those he mentioned to come forward and refute the claims, maintaining that he is ready to table evidence publicly.
“Let the leaders I have mentioned above come forward and deny, nitoe evidence,” he said.
