A woman identified as Essie Ohuru has shared a series of private messages allegedly exchanged with a man after she failed to honour plans for a date despite receiving KSh1,000 in transport money.
Ohuru said the man, whom she described as being from Siaya, sent her the money to facilitate her journey to Siaya for the planned meeting. However, instead of travelling to meet him, she said she chose to visit her mother in Nyakach.
In a social media post, Ohuru explained that the decision left the man angry and demanding his money back.
“A man from Siaya gave me KSh1,000 so that I could go for a date in Siaya. Instead, I went to visit my mother in Nyakach,” she wrote.
She further claimed that the situation had become a topic of discussion, mentioning a woman identified as Akoth, daughter of Masiro, in her post.
According to the chats she shared, the man accused Ohuru of speaking to him disrespectfully after using the money he had sent for transport.
“Mimi hautaniongelesha vibaya kwa pesa yangu. Hunijui. You can't wake up and ‘apologise’ for eating fare mtu mkubwa kama wewe. Then unaongea vibaya,” the man wrote.
He went on to demand that the KSh1,000 be refunded within a few days, saying he did not want to continue arguing over the matter.
“I'll give you a few days to refund the 1000. And that's it. Hautawainiskia tena. That's all,” he added.
In another message, the man claimed that the financial loss was much bigger than the transport money. He said he had paid KSh3,500 for a bedroom Airbnb that he allegedly did not spend the night in, in addition to sending Ohuru KSh1,000.
“You should actually be apologising while refunding the money because obviously I didn't expect someone like you to be ‘eating’ fare,” he said.
“Yesterday you wasted both my time and money. I paid 3500 for a bedroom BnB I didn't spend a night in. I also sent you 1000. That's 4500 plus a lot of wasted time,” he added.
Ohuru's post has since drawn attention online, with the dispute highlighting the tensions that can arise when people exchange money for transport or make plans to meet but one party changes their plans.
