The deaths of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier Daniel Mburu Kinyanjui and 28-year-old Eunice Waruguru Kimani at Kirimon Military Camp in Laikipia County continue to draw attention as details surrounding the incident emerge.

The incident happened some time ago at the military facility, where Kinyanjui and Waruguru were found dead inside an accommodation block following reports of gunshots.

Kinyanjui, who was about 25 years old, was stationed at the camp. Waruguru, aged 28, was the second person found inside the room where the shooting occurred.

Police were alerted after gunshots were heard at about 5:20 a.m. Officers who arrived at the scene found the two bodies inside a room situated between two double-decker beds.

Investigators established that Kinyanjui had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Waruguru had suffered gunshot injuries to her left hand, face and head.

The discovery prompted a detailed investigation aimed at establishing what happened inside the room before the fatal shooting and the circumstances that brought the two together at the military facility.

A firearm and a significant amount of ammunition were recovered at the scene.

Police found an AK rifle loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition, while six AK-47 magazines containing 30 rounds each were also recovered.

Seven spent cartridges were reportedly scattered around the room, providing investigators with additional evidence as they reconstructed the events.

Among the items recovered was a hard-cover exercise book containing an eight-page handwritten last testament believed to have been written by Kinyanjui.

The contents of the document were not publicly disclosed, but investigators considered it an important piece of evidence as they sought to understand the events preceding the deaths.

Three mobile phones and another black button phone were also recovered. The devices were expected to help investigators establish the victims' movements and communications before the incident.

The case attracted the attention of both police and military authorities. Officers from Suguta Mar Mar Police Station, the Laikipia North Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office and Kimanju Police Station visited the scene.

Military police from Ngoisus Camp also participated in the response, while Crime Scene Investigation officers from Nanyuki processed the scene and collected evidence.

The bodies were later transferred to the Samburu County Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations.

Despite the evidence recovered from the scene, investigators had not publicly established a definitive motive for the deaths.

Authorities had also not confirmed the nature of the relationship between Kinyanjui and Waruguru or publicly concluded whether the incident amounted to a murder-suicide.

The handwritten testament, firearm, spent cartridges and mobile phones remained key pieces of evidence as detectives sought to establish the sequence of events.

The case underscores the importance of determining how Waruguru gained access to the military accommodation and what transpired inside the room before the gunshots were heard.

While the incident occurred some time ago, the circumstances surrounding the deaths remain a subject of interest, with the investigation expected to provide answers about the events that preceded the fatal shooting.
