In late August 2025, what began as an ordinary night out in Nairobi’s vibrant nightlife scene ended in a killing that would shock many and later stand as a grim reminder of how quickly domestic disputes can turn fatal.

Teddy Otieno, widely known as Teddy Bigman, was among hundreds of young Kenyans who thronged entertainment spots on the evening of August 29.

Witness accounts indicate he spent the night in the company of his girlfriend at a city club, where the atmosphere was lively and, by all appearances, calm.

There were no immediate signs of tension. Staff and revelers would later recall the couple leaving together in the early hours, seemingly like any other pair winding down after a night of music and drinks.

But behind that normalcy, investigators believe, tension had already begun to build.

By the time the couple returned to their residence in Pipeline Estate, events took a violent turn. Reports that later emerged suggested that a disagreement escalated rapidly into a physical confrontation. In the course of that altercation, Teddy was stabbed.

The exact trigger of the fight has remained a matter of speculation, with some accounts pointing to unresolved relationship issues, including suspicions of infidelity.

What is clear, however, is that the injuries he sustained proved fatal.

Attempts to save him were unsuccessful. By the time help was sought, Teddy had succumbed, turning what may have been a domestic dispute into a homicide case.

The girlfriend, who reportedly raised the alarm after the incident, became central to the ensuing police investigations.

News of the killing spread quickly, first through local reports and then across social media platforms, where the story sparked widespread debate.

Many Kenyans framed the incident within a growing pattern of intimate partner violence, questioning how conflicts within relationships continue to escalate unchecked.

As more details emerged, another layer of the tragedy came into focus. Teddy was not only a Nairobi-based youth navigating urban life but also a family man.

Back in Uyoma, Siaya County, he had a wife and children who would soon receive the devastating news of his death.

The revelation deepened the public’s reaction, introducing questions about double lives, strained relationships, and the pressures that often go unseen.

Weeks later, Teddy Bigman was laid to rest in his rural home in Siaya in an emotional ceremony attended by family, friends, and community members.

His burial marked the end of his life but not the questions surrounding his death.

Looking back, the case remains one of several in recent years that highlight the deadly consequences of unresolved domestic conflict.

It underscored the urgent need for awareness, early intervention, and support systems for couples facing relationship strain.

Today, the story of Teddy Bigman is remembered not just for its tragic end, but for what it revealed about the fragile line between ordinary life and irreversible violence.
