Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has pledged uninterrupted development in Ol Kalou Constituency following the decisive victory of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru, popularly known as Kamau Ngotho.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, after the declaration of results, Kuria said he had personally reached out to the MP-elect to congratulate him, describing the outcome as a clear expression of the will of the people.
“This morning I called MP-elect Hon Kamau Ngotho to congratulate him for his resounding victory. The people of Ol Kalou have spoken, and it is clear he has overwhelming support,” Kuria said.
The by-election, triggered by the death of former MP David Njuguna Kiaraho, ended in a landslide win for Ngotho, who garnered 35,440 votes against his closest rival from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Samuel Muchina Nyagah, who received 5,450 votes.
Despite the political shift, Kuria moved to calm concerns over possible disruption of government-backed projects, emphasizing that development would proceed regardless of the electoral outcome.
“As the person who was coordinating development projects in Ol Kalou on behalf of the government, I have assured Hon Ngotho that none of the projects will stop,” he stated.
Among the key projects set to continue is the construction of Nyandarua University, alongside major road infrastructure works including the tarmacking of Ithagani–Nyaituga–Ngorika–Kanyiriti road and the Lake Olbolosat access road.
Kuria further confirmed that the Nairobi–Gilgil–Ol Kalou–Nyahururu railway line will maintain its current schedule, supporting both cargo transport and passenger travel twice a week.
On utilities, he said all 36 electrification projects will be completed, while water connectivity initiatives spearheaded by the Central Rift Water Works Agency and Ol Kalou Water Company will proceed as planned.
Agricultural programmes also featured prominently, with Kuria noting that 100,000 avocado seedlings already planted will position farmers for export markets, particularly China, within the next two years. Irrigation at Gwa Kiongo Dam and dairy sector support under the NYOTA programme will also remain intact.
Other initiatives set for completion include affordable housing projects, modern market upgrades, digital hubs, school technology programmes, and the ongoing Climate Workx youth employment initiative.
Kuria also highlighted ongoing investments in healthcare and sports infrastructure, including the Mashujaa Wing at JM Kariuki Hospital and the Ol Kalou Stadium.
“In a nutshell, both democracy and development will win because elections are not a matter of life and death,” he said.
