Kalonzo Musyoka
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has firmly rejected speculation that he is negotiating a political deal with President William Ruto, declaring that any engagement between them will be decided by voters in the next General Election.
Speaking during a press address on Thursday, July 30, Kalonzo broke his silence amid growing claims of a possible alliance with the ruling administration.
He dismissed the reports as unfounded and politically motivated, insisting that his position in the opposition remains unchanged.
“I want to tell Ruto, please stop imagining that Kalonzo Musyoka can ever join you. We will meet at the ballot,” he said. “We will have that conversation at the ballot on the 10th of August next year, God willing.”
The Wiper leader framed the upcoming election as a defining moment for the country, drawing parallels with the 2002 transition that ended KANU’s long rule.
He warned that leaders who undermine public expectations risk political backlash.
“I think we have a 2002 moment. Yeyote yule ambaye atadhubutu kuharibu hisia na matarajio ya watu wetu wa Kenya atajipata kwingine kubaya sana,” Kalonzo stated, signaling a broader opposition push to capitalize on public sentiment.
Kalonzo also addressed claims circulating online that he had recently met President Ruto or was scheduled to appear alongside him at a joint press briefing.
He termed the allegations as part of a coordinated attempt to discredit him politically.
“I am under a terrible attack that I met William Ruto yesterday, and even this morning, I am supposed to be joining him for a 7 o’clock presser,” he said, dismissing the reports as false.
At the same time, Kalonzo reaffirmed his presidential ambitions, referencing a prior declaration by his party endorsing him as its candidate.
He noted that internal party processes had already positioned him for the race.
