A Nandi County teacher has come out strongly in defence of Head of Public Service and Chief of Staff Felix Koskei, praising him for swift and life-changing intervention in the case of a needy student at Kapsabet Girls High School.

Mwalimu Baxtone, a teacher based in Nandi, says Koskei responded within less than 14 hours after he highlighted the situation of a Form Four student who had been sent home over a fee balance of Ksh119,084.

According to Baxtone, the student, identified as Faith Jepchumba, had stayed at home for three weeks before help arrived.

He claims Koskei immediately deployed a team to Koibem village in Chepkumia Ward, Nandi County, to pick up the student and return her to school.

“Hon. Felix Koskei felt the pain and responded to the case in less than 14 hours,” Baxtone said.

“Mheshimiwa never knew the girl, but with a human heart, he just did what no one else could do. That alone tells you the kind of leadership we are talking about.”

He further alleges that the government official facilitated shopping for the student in town, paid for her purchases, and later took her for lunch before escorting her back to school.

“When we arrived in town, Mheshimiwa made sure the girl picked everything she needed from the supermarket,” he said. “He paid immediately without hesitation and even ensured she had a proper meal before we proceeded to school.”

Upon arrival at Kapsabet Girls, Baxtone says Koskei cleared the outstanding fee balance of Ksh119,084 and additionally paid Ksh20,000 for two sets of school uniforms and pocket money as advised by the school administration.

“At the school, he cleared the entire arrears. The receipt is there,” Baxtone said. “He also added Ksh20,000 for uniforms and ensured the girl had pocket money. Everything was handled with dignity.”

The teacher also claimed that Koskei extended support to the student’s sister, who is pursuing a law degree at Maseno University, by settling her pending fees.

“He did not stop there. He also stood with her sister in university. That is something very few people would do,” Baxtone said.

In his account, Baxtone described Koskei as a leader with a strong humanitarian heart, saying his actions have transformed multiple lives across Nandi County and beyond.

“These are not stories. These are real lives changed,” he said. “A leader with a human heart. A top performer like no other. Amewasaidia wengi sana.”

He also referenced a similar case at Kemeloi Boys High School, where Koskei allegedly cleared school fees and medical bills for a Form Four student who had been hospitalised, as well as supporting a struggling family from Kaptumo.

“The other day he also cleared school fees for a student at Kemeloi Boys who was hospitalised. He even handled huge medical bills the family could not afford,” Baxtone said.

However, Baxtone expressed concern over what he termed as “unnecessary attacks” on the Head of Public Service, alleging that some critics are deliberately undermining his efforts.

“Unnecessary attacks on the Head of Public Service are uncalled for,” he said. “Some of these accusations are baseless. They do not reflect what is happening on the ground.”

He called for an end to what he described as political distractions, urging leaders to focus on service delivery.

“Let him do his work. We want leadership and not attacks,” he said. “Tunataka kazi na vitendo vinavyoonekana ground. People should judge leaders by what they do, not by rumours.”
