Kilifi police have arrested two suspects following a targeted anti-narcotics operation that led to the recovery of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh4.2 million.

The raid, conducted in Kisumu Ndogo area of Kilifi town, is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks along the Coast region.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the operation was intelligence-led and executed by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based in Kilifi.

“An anti-narcotics crackdown in Kilifi has led to the arrest of two drug traffickers and the recovery of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh4.2 million in the streets,” the DCI stated.

Detectives stormed a residential house believed to be a storage point for narcotics, where they arrested two suspects identified as Eisha Mzungu Kalama and Jamal Chilumo Chiraga.

“In a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation, Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) based in Kilifi raided a house in Kisumu Ndogo area of Kilifi town, where they arrested the two suspects: Eisha Mzungu Kalama and her accomplice, Jamal Chilumo Chiraga,” the statement added.

During the raid, officers carried out a search of the premises and recovered a significant quantity of drugs allegedly ready for distribution.

“During the operation, detectives conducted a swift search of the premises, uncovering two and a half sacks of cannabis sativa wrapped in brown khaki paper, weighing 142 kilograms, ready for distribution,” the DCI said.

Police confirmed that the suspects were taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits.

“The suspects were immediately escorted to Kilifi Police Station together with the recovered narcotics, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment,” read part of the statement.

The seized drugs have since been secured as exhibits as investigations continue into the wider trafficking network believed to be operating within and beyond Kilifi County.

“The seized narcotic drugs are being held as exhibits as investigations continue into the suspected trafficking network,” the DCI added.

Authorities have intensified anti-drug operations along the Coast, an area frequently identified as a key corridor for narcotics transit and distribution.
