Former aide to Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba, has called for calm and unity amid growing tensions between Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo.

In a statement issued in April 2026, Jakakimba described the two leaders as long-time friends and said he had personally engaged each of them in private discussions over the years in an effort to ease differences.

He noted that the conversations were confidential but focused on encouraging cooperation for the benefit of Homa Bay County.

“These two leaders are my sisters and close personal friends,” he said, adding that he had taken time to brief each side on key concerns and perspectives in a bid to promote understanding.

His remarks come at a time when differences between the governor and the legislator have sparked debate within ODM circles and among supporters in the region.

The disagreement, which has played out in public statements and political commentary, has been linked to broader issues of leadership approach and political alignment.

Jakakimba said unity among leaders in Nyanza remains critical, warning that prolonged divisions could affect delivery of services to residents.

He referenced his experience working with Raila Odinga, saying it shaped his belief in collective leadership and regional cohesion.

“I have always supported the unity of Nyanza and the Greater Kavirondo region, including Homa Bay County,” he said.

He urged both sides to lower tensions, noting that political disagreements, if not managed, could interfere with their constitutional roles.

According to him, both the county government and the area’s parliamentary leadership have clear mandates that require focus and coordination.
