Siaya Governor and Linda Mwananchi political leader James Orengo has alleged that plans are underway to disrupt the movement’s planned rally in Homa Bay County, warning that the organisers will proceed with the event despite what he described as a threat of political violence.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, August 12, Orengo claimed that he had received intelligence indicating that meetings had been held in hotels and other public places to coordinate disruptions during the rally scheduled for Sunday, August 16, 2026.
Orengo alleged that the planned violence was being organised and funded by the state through elected leaders and politicians from Homa Bay County.
“I am fully aware that I’m the main target for the much planned political violence being organized and fully funded by the state,” Orengo said.
He further claimed that some youths had been supplied with crude weapons, including rungus, pangas and knives, to cause chaos during the gathering.
The governor did not publicly identify the leaders or individuals he accused of organising the alleged plot. His claims had also not been independently verified by the time of his address.
Orengo urged authorities and political leaders to stop any attempts to interfere with the rally, insisting that Linda Mwananchi supporters would attend the event peacefully.
“This must stop. Despite all of this planned violence against us, the rally will go on,” he said.
The planned Homa Bay rally comes as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with political leaders seeking to consolidate support across Nyanza and other parts of the country.
Orengo also used the occasion to make a political statement about the region’s future, declaring that Nyanza would reject leaders seeking more than one term in office.
“Nobody will create a Chinese Wall in Nyanza. The truth is that the region is ‘One Term’ and this will be proven come 2027 general elections,” he said.
The governor concluded by assuring supporters that they would protect themselves while attending the rally, saying, “Sisi tutajilinda!”
